Brazilian Business Pact for the Humanized Digitization of Work is established

Monday 13, November 2017

The objective is to raise awareness of Brazilian executives for the development of the digitization of processes focused on the human being

The companies EDP, EY, Fiap and Korn Ferry announce this Monday 13, the launch and adherence to the Brazilian Business Pact for the Humanized Digitization of Work, which aims to mobilize Brazilian business leaders in a humanizing movement of work digitization, engaging the whole of society and stakeholders through a collaborative ecosystem of discussion.

"In 2017, EDP was a pioneer in the electric sector, launching the Excellence in Robotization project and beginning a journey in the digitalization of processes. Now, we want to be on the front line in adopting a framework of best practices in relations between human beings and technology," explains the EDP President, Miguel Setas.

"We know that the labor market will be different from 2025 onwards, considering the transformation of operational activities, which are being restructured through process automation. With this in mind, attention must be focused on the development of people and training talent that corresponds with this new reality, " says Luiz SŽrgio Vieira, Brazilian CEO of EY.

"As for the future, the only certainty we have is that change will never occur as slowly as it does today. Here at FIAP, together with our students, we think a lot about technology, innovation and the future. We believe that technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning will lead a major revolution in our society, possibly an even greater transformation than the internet has caused in our lives. Thinking about this near future and how to adapt to it is imperative," according to Gustav Gennari, CEO of FIAP.

"Digital transformation is a reality, but we must not believe that the increasing value of the technological factor will negate the value of the human factor. Afterall, artificial intelligence can generate data better and faster, and detect important trends, but it cannot go beyond its algorithms. People can push beyond their abilities and potential, they can continually improve through knowledge and experience. It is a pleasure for Korn Ferry, leading consulting firm in digital transformation, to start this pact together with the partner companies, in addition to using all our knowledge and research to help develop the professional of the future," completes Jorge Maluf, Partner of Korn Ferry.

The first initiatives of the partner companies were the structuring of and adherence to the Business Pact of Humanized Digitization of Labor and the announcement of a Summit on the subject, to be held in the first quarter of 2018, which will bring together executives and experts on automation of processes and the impacts of the use of robotic systems on society and companies.

The partner companies are signatories to ten fundamental principles that govern the Brazilian Business Pact for Humanized Digitization:

  • Humanization: Always consider the human factor in decision-making about technology, creating the conditions to strengthen the capacity to adapt to the new organizational paradigm.

  • Leadership: Lead the search for solutions and stakeholder engagement in promoting the humanized digitization of work.

  • Integration: Promote the integration between the public sector, business organizations, third sector entities and other interested parties in the search for the applicability of the concepts of digitalization for the benefit of society in general.

  • Balance: Rule the equilibrium vectors of change considering the adaptive capacity of the individual, the absorption speed of the organization, changes in social context and the involvement of other agents.

  • Training: Encourage partnerships with educational entities to ensure digital inclusion in the development grid and training those involved in the transformation process of the new working environment.

  • Inclusion: Ensure equality of access to vocational training platforms regardless of age, race, gender, religion, economic and social status.

  • Knowledge: Collaborate actively in carrying out studies and research that will constantly stimulate the production of new knowledge, promoting its sharing among all concerned parties.

  • Transparency: Provide access to information, aiming at an understanding of the dynamics and impact of transformation within the sphere of the individual, organization and society.

  • Safety: Mitigate risks and maximize the benefits of technological advances, applying good information security and governance practices.

  • Compliance: Commit to an ethical and aligned performance with the principles of conformity.

Robotization R&D

Already aligned with the scope of the Pact, EDP and EY, together with the University of S‹o Paulo (USP), have recently started a pioneer Research & Development project for artificial intelligence systems applied to the energy distribution area. With an investment of R$ 8.3 million over 18 months, the project will study the impact of automation processes with the latest generation robots.

The initiative aims to structure an observatory of disruptive technology which will analyze, among other relevant issues, its impact on training and workforce management. From this study, it will be possible to identify, measure and mitigate socio-economic and cultural aspects, helping to define a new profile for contributors and management bodies before the changes brought by the application of new advanced technologies.

The unprecedented study in the energy sector will allow the use of first generation robots, which are capable of automating manual and repetitive processes, freeing people for more analytical and creative activities. Afterwards, the same study will be carried out using third generation and later robots with the use of artificial intelligence, which are able to learn to identify "patterns" and make decisions.
