Setas is awarded the Officialdom of Business Merit of the Portuguese Republic

The accolade is bestowed in the year the executive completes 10 years in Brazil

Miguel Setas, the Chairman of EDP Brasil, was awarded the Grand Officialdom of the Order of Business Merit of the Portuguese Republic in the commercial class. The ceremony was held this Thursday (November 23) by the Portuguese ambassador in Brazil, Jorge Cabral.The distinction, which is bestowed by the President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, is intended to honor entrepreneurs or workers with relevant services in the creation or appreciation of wealth in the country.

"I interpret this award as a recognition for the organizations I currently represent, EDP Brasil and the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce. This award is not for an individual, but rather for a living, dynamic, and responsible business community," Miguel Setas said.

In January 2014, Miguel Setas, who had been in Brazil since 2008, took over the chairmanship of EDP Brasil. Operating in all segments of the electricity value chain, the company has been in the country for the past 22 years, with operations in 12 Brazilian states, and currently employs about 3,000 workers. In 2015, Miguel Setas was also appointed President of the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce in S‹o Paulo, a non-profit, non-governmental organization that assists Portuguese companies in establishing trade and investment relations in Brazil, and vice versa.

The recognition was bestowed during the reception for the Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Augusto Santos Silva, at the headquarters of the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce. The Order of Business Merit was created in 1893 during the reign of D. Carlos I.
