City energy savings with the lighting will be around R$ 270,000 per year

Jacareí is the third city in São Paulo state to be contemplated by the EDP Public Call for Energy Efficiency Projects, and will have about 1,000 public lighting points modernized with LED technology lamps, more efficient, economic and sustainable. The contract signing event with the municipality occurred today (27), with the attendance of EDP and City Hall.

At the company that will perform the project implementation is EDP Soluções, responsible for EDP Group integrated business and services development, for clients in the commercial segment - with energy efficiency projects in lighting and refrigeration - ,and in industry - with steam generation projects with biomass and utilities hubs.

In total, about 1,000 light bulbs of the city public lighting will be replaced by LED technology. The benefited neighbourhoods will be: Centro, Jardim Califórnia, Jardim Esperança, Jardim Paraíba, Cidade Nova Jacareí, São João, Parque Itamarati, Parque dos Príncipes, Jardim Colônia and Jardim Santa Maria. The choice, conducted in partnership with the City Hall, considered the points with significant potential of reducing costs with electricity.EDP will invest a total of R$1 .112 .757,03 in the project.

With the deployment, it will be possible to reduce the energy consumption by 732 megawatt hours (MWh/year), the equivalent to the average annual consumption of 305 families. In addition, there is also a reduction in maintenance costs, since the durability of the LED lamp is much higher than the current system. The new model also generates less environmental impact because it does not have mercury and other harmful components in its composition.

"Bringing more efficiency to municipal public lighting is synonymous with more quality and safety for the population. In addition, with the economy generated by LED lamps, it will be possible to redirect resources for the benefit of the city itself", says Marney Antunes, General Director of EDP. The energy efficiency project will bring an energy saving for the municipality of around R$ 270,000 per year.

At the equipment replacement will begin in February, 2019, and is scheduled to be completed in three months. The project was contemplated in the Public Call for Projects - CPP 001/2017 of EDP Energy Efficiency Program, which is regulated by the Brazil’s Electric Energy Agency(ANEEL).

In November, it was signed along with the Santa Branca City Hall an efficient process of 100% of municipal public lighting. The estimated energy savings for the city with lighting is around R$ 220,000 per year. On December, 17th, Monteiro Lobato also signed the receiving of the replacement project of all public lighting inventory and municipal health stations.
