Guaratinguetá team wins the 2015 edition of the EDP University Challenge

The winning projects focused on social inclusion, responsible consumption, and clean power generation

Held by EDP Brasil, a company engaged in energy generation, trading and supply, the 2015 edition of the EDP University Challenge - a competition geared towards Management, Strategy, Marketing, and Design students from all over the country - announces the competition winners. 50 projects applied, hailing from several Brazilian states such as São Paulo, Maranhão and Rio Grande do Sul.

The 1st and 2nd ranking teams are:

-1st Place: Team Trupe dos Sinais, consisting of Business Management students from Guaratinguetá Technological Faculty (FATEC) in hinterland São Paulo, with a project for the creation of a theater course in public schools, aimed at the inclusion of people with hearing disabilities. Theatre plays would use Brazilian Signal Language (LIBRAS) and address topics such as energy efficiency and natural resource preservation.

- 2nd Place: Projeto Solar team from the School of Arts, Sciences and Humanities of the University of São Paulo (EACH/USP), focusing on domestic solar power generation. It comprises a discount and easy payment program for EDP customers interested in adopting the technology.

The winning project received an R$16,000 prize, while the adviser received R$8000. The second best team received R$8000, while the advisor received R$4000.

The 2015 edition was divided into two topics: "Responsible electricity consumption" and "Customer service quality and satisfaction". Out of the 50 projects submitted this year, 15 were preselected by a jury consisting of PremiValor consultants with extensive management, strategy and marketing experience. The finalists were submitted to a final evaluation in São Paulo, where a jury made up of EDP Brasil consultants and executives selected the winners. The projects were evaluated based on pre-established criteria such as creativity, innovation and sustainability.

The 2016 edition of the University Challenge

Applications for the 7th edition of the EDP University Challenge are openUnder the theme "Electrical Safety - Life always comes first", the challenge provides two registration deadlines:

- 1st semester of 2016, applications open until April 26, final projects to be submitted by June 23.

- 2nd semester, applications open from August 8 to September 6, and projects must be submitted by November 22.

Participants must organize themselves into groups of two to five members, and it is not necessary that they attend the same educational institution. Teacher monitoring is recommended, but not a prerequisite.
