Tuesday 04, September 2018

At the Grande Sacada Project, which encourages children and adolescents in situations of social risks to practice sports, began its activities last Friday (31) in Espírito Santo. Beach volleyball Olympic-medalist Alison Cerutti and EDP Institute representatives attended the opening ceremony.

At the project’s first activity was held at Itapuã beach, in Vila Velha, attracting around 70 children and adolescents. The event also saw students participating in educational activities, lectures about sports, prize draws and a four-a-side beach volleyball tournament. The youngsters also received new uniforms for classes and training, which is held outside school hours.

“At the EDP Institute, we believe in the transformative power of sport leading to offer young people a better quality of life. In 2018, the Institute will support 12 educational projects in Espírito Santo, helping to educate children and adolescents through sports”, says Paulo Ramicelli, a assistant director at the Instituto EDP.

“Sport is education’s greatest ally due to the important values it transmits during character development and growth. I strongly believe in promoting sports as a social transformation tool, providing an opportunity for these young boys and girls to live together in a healthy, positive, friendly and educational environment, where they can dream of a better future for their families and themselves. I am delighted and honored to sponsor this project”, said Alison Cerutti.

At the project is organized by the Espirito Santo Volleyball Federation - FESV and sponsored by EDP, via the EDP Institute, and takes place at two beach volleyball school hubs located in Viana and Vila Velha. Activities will run from August to December.
