The Energy of the Portuguese Language' arrives in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim

Tuesday 08, August 2017

The Portuguese Language Truck will be in the city from August 10 to 13; Vitória and Linhares are the next destinations in Espírito Santo

From August 10 to 13, EDP - a company engaged in energy generation, transmission, trading, services and supply - will be holding an interactive exhibition on wheels titled "The Energy of the Portuguese Language" in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim. This is an exhibition that will feature various activities related to our language.

Admission is free and open to the public. In the first two days (10 and 11), from 8.30 am to 11.30 am and from 2 pm to 5.30 pm, the exhibition will only be accessible to guided school tours. However, the local community will be able to visit the project from 11.30 am to 2 pm. Saturday and Sunday (12 and 13), the exhibition will be open to the public from 10 am to 7 pm.

The Portuguese Language Truck started from Ibirapuera Park in S‹o Paulo, parked in Paraty throughout the month of July for the 15th edition of FLIP (Paraty International Literary Festival), and now arrives in Esp’rito Santo. Vit—ria and Linhares are some of the next exhibition destinations.

Using the mobile structure of a truck, the exhibition will span 300m2 and allow visitors to learn more about Portuguese-speaking countries, the peculiarities of language variants in Brazil and Portugal, and trivia about idiomatic expressions in this language - considered to be the fifth most spoken language in the world and the most widely used in the southern hemisphere.

"It is with great enthusiasm that we welcome the Portuguese Language Truck in our region. Highly successful wherever it goes, this EDP project has already received more than 2,000 visitors and continues to disseminate the importance of celebrating our cultural heritage," says EDP Esp’rito Santo Director Jo‹o Brito.

This EDP Brasil project will immerse visitors in in the art and culture of Portuguese-speaking countries, with a special focus on the connections between Brazil and Portugal. Finally, EDP will invite visitors to donate books, which will be delivered to several institutions.

Clean energy

Clean energy will be present with the use of photovoltaic solar panels on the roof of the truck. LED panels are also planned for the entire exhibition, recalling that the purpose of the initiative is to emphasize the importance of preserving natural resources and the benefits of energy efficiency.

Attractions:

The traveling project internal area offers several fun and interactive Portuguese language activities:

  • "Manifesto": It will be displayed like a carpet on the entrance wall and announce all the activities offered by the truck.

  • "Portuguese Language in the World, Experience the Energy of Being There: Visitors will learn more about the 10 Portuguese-speaking countries by exploring each country culture. These countries can be visited on a 360¡ screen. On the floor, like a compass rose, visitors will see the name of each country and, on the wall, pictures and idiomatic expressions from these places.

  • A Language Full of Energy and History: It will show and explain the meaning of idiomatic expressions we use on a daily basis: even-headed beast", "the walls have ears", "putting your hand on fire", and so many others.

  • Spelling Bee: Visitors will have to spell Portuguese words, randomly selected by a vending machine. If they get it right, they win a book.

  • "EDP and the Portuguese Language Museum": From the Portuguese Language Museum to Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, from Cachoeiro de Itapemirim to the Museum. A panel inside the truck will share photos and information about the museum.

  • "Recite your Poem": To leave the truck, guests will be recorded reciting a poem. These fragments will become a video which will then be posted on EDP social networks.

  • External area: Outdoor activities include cover face illusions with book covers, exclusive posters with the visitor favorite literary quote, a reading area with a bookshelf filled with books, puffs and chairs. At night, the LED panel will turn into a movie screen and show movie classics inspired by Brazilian literature: "Palavra Encantada "and" L’ngua: Vidas em Portugus". The panel will also show a chart with information on the exhibition route, including the number of people who have visited the itinerant project and the cities traveled.

Sponsoring the Portuguese Language

Portuguese language is an asset that binds the countries where it is spoken and establishes a special connection between Portuguese and Brazilian cultures. EDP Brasil invests in creative expressions that foster this cultural affinity and is the Master Sponsor of the refurbishment works at the Portuguese Language Museum

Its holdings - the language intangible heritage - are now being celebrated with activities such as the aforementioned itinerant exhibition, which will display photos and information on the museum reconstruction. As Master Sponsor of the renovation, EDP Brasil will invest R$20 million over the next three years. The opening is scheduled for 2019. "The Energy of the Portuguese Language" also includes content created in partnership with Funda‹o Roberto Marinho (FRM).
