EDP's Mascarenhas Power Plant obtains certification for good environmental practices and worker's health and safety

Energy generation unit in Espírito Santo receives ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 for the first time

The EDP Group, through its electric energy generation company is once again awarded for the quality its corporate management. In keeping with international standards, the Mascarenhas hydroelectric plant was presented for the first time with the ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certifications, which attest to the plant high environmental management standards and the Company respect for the safety and occupational health of its workers.

The certification stems from an external audit conducted by Bureau Veritas Certification, a France-based company specializing in tests, inspections and certifications. With an installed capacity of 198 MW, Mascarenhas is the main hydroelectric plant operated by EDP in Espírito Santo.

"These certifications translate the company success in implementing the commitments laid out in our environment and H&S integrated policy," says José Cherem, the EDP Group director for Generation Operations and Maintenance.

In accordance with the best environmental management practices, in November - and for the 10th consecutive year - the company was also listed on the BM&FBovespa Corporate Sustainability Index (ISE), which will take effect in 2016.
