Monday 01, August 2016

Universities from all over Brazil can register initiatives under the theme "Security in electrical networks - Life always first" up to September 6 and compete for prizes of up to R$ 16,000.

As of August 8, university students from all over Brazil can apply for the EDP University Challenge. To participate in the contest held by EDP Brasil, a company that operates in the areas of energy generation, distribution, commercialization and solutions, students should complete the registration form on the Company website before September 6 and submit the papers before November 22.

In order to stimulate students to put theoretical knowledge into practice in the corporate world, students will be challenged to propose marketing and communication actions under the theme "Safety in electrical networks - Life always first ". The theme is extremely important for the electric sector - on average, between 2001 and 2014, 910 people were injured per year in Brazil due to incidents with the electrical grid according to the Brazilian Association of Electricity Distributors (Abradee).

The seventh EDP University Challenge is aimed at undergraduate or postgraduate students in the fields of Management, Strategy, Marketing, Communication and Design. Candidates from other courses who demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the areas related to the contest can also apply, with the aim of promoting the best initiatives on the accident risks involving the electricity grid and how to prevent these incidents.

In the previous year contest, the Trupa dos Sinais team made up of students from the College of Technology in Guaratinguet‡ (FATEC) won the competition with a project for the creation of a theater course in public schools. Focused on the inclusion of people with hearing impairments, the project includes the use of the Brazilian sign language (LIBRAS) and addresses issues such as efficient energy consumption and the preservation of natural resources. The students of the winning project received a prize of R$ 16,000, and the advising teacher won R$ 8,000.

The dynamics of the contest

To compete, the participants of EDP University Challenge should be organized into groups of two to five members, with no need to study at the same educational institution. It is recommended they are accompanied by a teacher, although this is not a prerequisite.

The competition has two entry periods: one in the first semester, with a deadline which ended on April 26, and another in the second semester. All entrants compete with each other, and the 10 best projects will be selected by a consultant to go on to the final stage. The assessment will include a number of criteria, including creativity, innovation and project sustainability.

The award ceremony for the winning team of EDP University Challenge 2016 will take place in the first semester of 2017. At the time, the team and their advisor will be awarded with R$ 16,000 and R$ 8,000 respectively. The runners-up will win R$ 8,000 while their advising teacher will win R$ 4,000.
