EDP showcases the Lisbon Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology in exhibition held in parallel with the 32nd São Paulo Biennial

Friday 02, September 2016

An EDP Foundation project, MAAT will be the focus of an exhibition at the Portuguese Consulate General in September

MAAT - Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology will be presented to the Brazilian public for the first time on September 7. The presentation is part of the opening of an exhibition titled "The Future will be a Replica," to be held at the Portuguese General Consulate in S‹o Paulo.

The museum project will be presented by Miguel Coutinho, General Director of the EDP Foundation - the institution that designed and maintains the facilities. EDP Brasil will also be present as a sponsor.

About MAAT - Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology

MAAT has the ambition of displaying Portuguese and international contemporary artists, architects and thinkers, reflecting on major topics and current trends. With this venue, the company makes a decisive contribution to the landscape and artistic evolution of the Portuguese capital, while also hosting several curatorial interpretations of the EDP Foundation Art Collection, with a plethora of programs that render it an important node in the city cultural scene.

The museum architecture is also innovative. The project fosters a dialogue between two worlds: a new building designed by the Amanda Levete Architects firm, and one of the Portuguese architectural icons of the first half of the 20th century - Tejo Central, one of the most popular museum hubs in the country. The complex is located in a 38,000m2 park on the banks of the Tagus River.

MAAT cultural programming started on June 30, taking over renovated rooms in the Tejo Central building. The new building will open to the public on October 5, with the first installment of Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster "Utopia/Dystopia", a project specifically created for the venue. On this occasion, visitors will also be able to explore the exhibitions "The World of Charles and Ray Eames", curated by London Barbican Centre, and "The Form of Shape", part of the Lisbon Architecture Triennale.
