EDP São Paulo brings itinerant Portuguese Language exhibition to Guarulhos

Wednesday 20, September 2017

Truck with interactive activities to celebrate our language will be in the city from September 22 to 24, bringing games and culture for children and grown-ups

The interactive exhibition "The Energy of the Portuguese Language" arrives in Guarulhos. An EDP S‹o Paulo initiative, the exhibition will be in Bosque Maia between September 22 and 24, from 10 am to 7 pm. Admission is free and open to the public.

"The Energy of the Portuguese Language" started its tour in Ibirapuera Park (S‹o Paulo city) and parked in Paraty throughout the month of July for the 15th edition of FLIP (Paraty International Literary Festival), It also visited the cities of Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, Vit—ria and Linhares (Esp’rito Santo), as well as Rio de Janeiro and S‹o JosŽ dos Campos (S‹o Paulo). Overall, the exhibition has received more than 9,000 visitors.

Another attraction is the spacious outdoor area, which invites visitors to read and interact among pouffes and book-lined bookshelves. There also a LED panel that turns into a movie screen and shows films inspired by Brazilian literature.

Using the movable structure of a truck, the exhibition spans 300m2 and immerses visitors in the art and culture of Portuguese-speaking countries, with special emphasis on the connections between Brazil and Portugal. This includes the peculiarities of linguistic variants in the two countries and trivia about idiomatic expressions in the Portuguese language - which is considered to be the fifth most spoken language in the world and the most widely used in the southern hemisphere.

Clean Energy in the Truck

Photovoltaic solar panels are used on the truck roof and LED panels are scattered throughout the exhibition in order to emphasize the importance of preserving natural resources and the benefits of energy efficiency.

Main attractions:

Inside the itinerant truck there are several interactive stations, each one with a different activity:

  • Accent Generator: Visitors can dub poetry stanzas with an accent of their choice (Portugal or other Brazilian states) and share it on social media.

  • Spelling Bee: The challenge is to spell Portuguese words randomly selected by a vending machine. If you get four words right, you win a book.

  • The Portuguese Language in the World, Experience the Energy of Being There: The 10 Portuguese-speaking countries can be visited on a 360¡ screen. On the floor, like a compass rose, visitors will see the name of each country and, on the wall, completely different photos and words to designate the same concepts.

  • A Language Full of Energy and History: It will show and explain the meaning of idiomatic expressions we use on a daily basis: even-headed beast, the walls have ears, putting your hand in the fire, and so many others.

  • Brazil X Portugal Timeline: This section will allow visitors to learn more about famous poems from the two countries, with access to author information, date, style, and other trivia.

  • EDP and the Portuguese Language Museum: From the Portuguese Language Museum to Guarulhos, from Guarulhos to the Museum. A panel inside the truck will share photos and information about the reconstruction of the Museum.

  • Recite your Poem: Before leaving the exhibition, visitors can recite a poem to our camera. These fragments will become a video, which will then be posted on EDP social networks.

  • Outside area: Cover face with book covers and exclusive posters with the visitor favorite literary quote.

Sponsoring the Portuguese Language

The Portuguese language is an asset that binds the countries where it is spoken and establishes a special connection between Portuguese and Brazilian cultures. This is why EDP Brasil, a company that operates in all segments of the electric value chain, invests in creative expressions that foster this cultural affinity.

The company is the Master sponsor of refurbishment works at the Portuguese Language Museum in S‹o Paulo, with an overall investment of R$20 million over the next three years. The opening is scheduled for 2019. The Energy of the Portuguese Language also features content developed in partnership with Funda‹o Roberto Marinho (FRM).
