Tuesday 10, April 2018

Company sponsors the event and lends its experience to projects focusing on Steam Generation, Lighting, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning

São Paulo, April 10, 2018 - EDP, a company operating in all segments of the Brazilian electricity sector, will be presenting its energy efficiency solutions at the Environment Business, Technology and Knowledge Fair (Fiema Brasil). The event, to be held on April 10-12 at the Bento Gonçalves Event Park in Rio Grande do Sul, is one of the main sustainable business generation, networking and market research events in the state.

At the Company will have a booth where interested parties can obtain detailed information on EDP solutions and business models. According to EDP Executive Manager for Energy Solutions André Breviglieri, "it is possible to reconcile economy with sustainability. In 2017 the company implemented 23 energy efficiency projects, generating 51.85 GWh savings on customers bills and reducing CO2 emissions by 30 457 tonnes.

EDP portfolio includes solutions for various customer types and sizes, whether industrial or commercial, providing reduced energy, maintenance, and operation costs along with environmental gains.

Services include consulting assistance, the deployment of more efficient and durable lighting systems with LED technology, the modernization of refrigeration and air conditioning systems, voltage level increase, and consumption management/ automation to avoid waste and optimize systems. In the case of industrial customers, the Company also provides solutions for the deployment of steam-generating (or energy-generating) biomass boilers for the production process, with cheaper and more sustainable fuel than fuel oil and natural gas.

O ne of the business models included in the Company portfolio is the Performance solution, in which EDP receives a fixed monthly fee corresponding to the savings generated by the project. Other models include Rent, where EDP ensures the maintenance and operation of the system throughout the contract, and BOT (Build Operate and Transfer), which consists of selling the utility while ensuring the availability, maintenance and operation of the entire system. In all these cases, the Company carries out 100% of the initial investment and creates a customized solution for each client.

EDP has provided Makro with the solution it was looking for in order to improve its energy efficiency and sustainability levels. By investing R$60 million in the replacement of its old lighting system with a new indoor/outdoor LED solution in every store across the country, the company succeeded in reducing its lighting consumption by up to 55% or 17,500 megawatts-hour (MWh) - the average consumption of 7,300 families.

In Rio Grande do Sul, three Makro units (located in Porto Alegre, Caxias do Sul and São Leopoldo) underwent this modernization process.
