The Company will invest R$20 million to refurbish the world's first museum entirely dedicated to a language

EDP, an energy sector company, will be the Master Sponsor of the renovation of the Portuguese Language Museum. The company will pledge R$20 million towards the works, which represents 32% of the total cost. Scheduled to last for 30 months, renovation costs are estimated at about R$65 million. The remaining investment will be covered by the insurance policy and contributions from the Roberto Marinho Foundation and the Itaœ Group. The initiative has the support of the Federal Culture Incentive law.

"Portuguese language is a precious heritage that binds Brazil and Portugal. Being able to contribute to the renovation of the Portuguese Language Museum in S‹o Paulo, the largest lusophone city in the world, has an enormous symbolism for EDP, Portugal largest investor in Brazil. This is a project we are passionate about and of which we are very proud," says EDP CEO Miguel Setas.

The joint initiative for the renovation of the Museum was signed this Monday (December 12) at Bandeirantes Palace in S‹o Paulo, with the presence of Miguel Setas, JosŽ Roberto Sadek (Secretary of State for Culture), and Geraldo Alckmin (Governor of the State of S‹o Paulo).

Awarded by UNESCO as the best communication and information project in 2006, and considered by TripAdvisor to be the fourth best museum in Latin America for four years in a row, the museum received four million visitors until its closure at the end of 2015, when it was destroyed by a fire.
