EDP Live Bands Brazil'17 announces Gelpi as Grand Winner

The band from Rio Grande do Sul will have the opportunity to record an album with Sony Music and play at one of Europe's biggest festivals

Rock dominated this Saturday night in the Brazil"17 EDP Live Bands Final, that declared band Gelpi as the Grand Winner of the musical contest, among eight finalists. The winner, in addition to recording an album with Sony Music, will have the chance to perform at one of the biggest music festivals in Europe, NOS Alive"17.

Among more than 1,600 participants, the musicians from Rio Grande do Sul drew the attention of the public, who voted for their favorites, and also of the Jury, who evaluated the performance and originality of each finalist in the Grand Final.

In its second edition in Brazil, EDP Live Bands is an initiative of EDP, one of the largest private companies in the country that operates in the energy sector. In Portugal, where it was created, the contest is in its fourth edition. The Brazilian version of the competition is the result of an EDP Brasil partnership with Everything is New, Sony Music and FNAC, and also has the institutional support of the Luso-Brazilian Foundation.

The Grand Final was marked by lots of music, with live performances of all eight final contestants. The bands, from S‹o Paulo, Minas Gerais, Esp’rito Santo and Rio Grande do Sul, played two of their original compositions, one of which is the work initially registered and that guaranteed the stay in the competition. The band Soulvenir, from Maranh‹o, winner of the first edition of EDP Brasil Live Bands, also performed at the event.

One day before the big final, the competitors participated in a workshop with renowned music industry experts, who shared their experiences on how to make a career in the artistic world.

"The quality of the bands that performed this year was impressive. EDP Brasil has brought this contest in order to discover and encourage young talents, and we are extremely satisfied with the level of the finale ", says Paulo Campos Costa, Director of Communication for the EDP Group. Originality, stage presence, technique and musical performance were some of the criteria evaluated by the jury integrated by Paulo Campos Costa (EDP), çlvaro Cov›es (Everything is New), Victor Silva (Sony Music) and Paulo Lima (Fnac).

The winner

Folk and Blues Rock band, formed by 3 brothers: Bolivar, Pedro and Laura Gelpi. Currently, formed of 9 members, the band approaches new sonorities, with instruments like Banjo Folk or Lap Steel. As main references, the band takes from Mumford and Sons, Edward Sharp and The Magnetic Zeroes, Bob Dylan and others. In addition to the brothers, the group have the participation of Erik Banach Feller, Fernando Pellegrini and Lucas Alcade Varisco.
