Eight indie, rock, and pop rock bands from four Brazilian states - São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo - ensured their place in the Finals of the EDP Live Bands Brazil"17 and are still in the running for the opportunity to record an album with Sony Music and perform at one of Europe biggest music festivals, the NOS Alive´17.

About A Soul, Irmãos Ventura and Last Lover (São Paulo), GELPI and Valente (Rio Grande do Sul), Goma and Venosa (Minas Gerais), and Machimbo (Espírito Santo) are heading towards the last phase of the contest, which, in its second edition in the country, attracted the interest of 1,600 bands from all over Brazil.

The finalists will perform live before the judges in a big show, which will take place on May 6th, at Bourbon Street in São Paulo. The jury will evaluate aspects such as technique and musical execution, originality, stage presence, musical interpretation and interaction with the audience to choose the winner. On that date, the bands will show two of their original compositions, one of them being the song initially registered that guaranteed their place in the competition. The band Souvenir, from Maranhão, winner of the contest in 2016, will also play in the event.

The day before the Grand Final (05/05), the competitors will participate in a workshop with renowned music industry experts, who will share their experiences on how to make a career in the artistic world.

EDP Live Bands Brazil"17 is an initiative of EDP Brasil, a company that operates in the areas of generation, distribution, marketing and energy solutions to support young talent in Brazil, which is why it holds the event in the country. In Portugal, where it was created, the competition is in its fourth edition. The Brazilian version of the competition is the result of a partnership with Everything is New, Sony Music and FNAC, and also has the institutional support of the Luso-Brazilian Foundation.

From Brazil to the stages of Europe

EDP Live Bands Brazil"16, the first edition of the competition in the country the last year, crowned the band from Maranhão, Soulvenir, composed by musicians Marlon Silva, Adnon Soares, Domingos Thiago, Wilson Jr and Sandoval Filho, who mixes electronic rock and regional rhythms with lyrics in English. Soulvenir was chosen among more than 1,300 bands registered, originating from seven Brazilian states, , and now the CD "Uterearth" is finished, to be released this year.
