Project ensures reduction in the energy bills of the hotel complex and allows savings in maintenance and greater comfort for guests

EDP Brasil and Costa do Sau’pe celebrated on Monday (the 19th) the results of a successful partnership for energy efficiency improvement in two hotels in the tourist complex at Bahia. The company, which operates in the areas of electric energy generation, distribution, commercialization and solutions, modernized the entire refrigeration system of the ventures, replacing old equipment with modern and efficient ones, which has led to a simplified system.

The initiative has already surpassed the initially estimated savings. The project estimated that, with the improvements, it would be possible to reduce energy consumption to 2,206 thousand megawatts-hour (MWh) yearly in the units. After completing the remodeling, an annual decrease in expenses of 2,965 thousand MWh was detected, about 34% more than estimated.

"Today, part of the Costa do Sau’pe complex has benefitted from the implementation of a modern and efficient project, which is also reflected in the well-being of guests," says the director of the areas of commercialization and energy solutions of EDP, Fernando Saliba. "It about a model that can also be replicated in other networks in the hotel sector or in other segments of industry and commerce", added the executive

In addition to the gains from lower energy consumption, modernization also allows savings in maintenance, less use of water for cooling, automation of the system, among others. In all, the result represents annual savings of R$1,176 million for Costa do Sau’pe.

"The current moment draws attention to an energy crisis in the country and the search for sustainable practices. We, as one of the largest holiday destinations in the country, are always looking for improvements to offer the best experience to guests while respecting the nature that surrounds us. Therefore, this partnership with EDP is very important, because besides the economy, we are also putting in practice a more sustainable generation of energy", explains Mark Campbell, director of Costa do Sau’pe operations.

The improvement in the climate control of the hotels" environment guarantees a better thermal balance and greater comfort for the guests.

The investment required for this reform, is estimated to be R$5.7 million, paid in part by EDP itself and by Costa do Sauipe by a percentage of what is saved monthly in energy bills. With this model, the energy company absorbs the business risk and can ensure the reduction of the costs of the hotel chain. The initiative was selected by the Public Call for Energetic Efficiency Projects from the Company of the State of Bahia (Coelba).
