Activities with students, staff and population in regions neighboring the plants help to raise sustainability awareness

EDP Brasil, a company engaged in energy generation, trading, services and supply, will celebrate Environment Week with several awareness-raising activities throughout the month, to be held in the regions where the company plants are located.

Companies controlled by EDP Brasil and the EDP Institute (which coordinates the Group social and environmental campaigns) will hold several activities in the Center-West, North and Northeast regions of Brazil with the goal of sharing and debating information on sustainability with students, employees and communities living in the vicinity of generating units.

One of these campaigns is called "Part of Us - Environment", an EDP Institute initiative that seeks to foster conservation volunteer work. Last Saturday, more than 200 people in Ceará volunteered to clean Taíba beach in São Gonçalo do Amarante, in the vicinity of Energia Pecém, an initiative that involved students, local communities, and workers of the Pecém I Industrial and Port Complex (CIPP). The activity was complemented by cultural performances such as folk dances, painting and shows. This was an Energia Pecém and Eneva joint initiative, with the support of 10 other companies from the region, which provided all the necessary material for safe garbage collection.

Employees of the Pecém Industrial and Port Complex, where Energia Pecém is located, will also attend several debates throughout the week. The goal is to rethink the impact of local communities on the environment, stimulate reflexion, and change a number of small but relevant everyday habits. The debates will address topics such as organic and inorganic waste recycling and responsible water use.

On Friday (3), in Tocantins, the EDP Institute invited students from Lajeado Municipal School to visit the Luiz Eduardo Magalhães HPP, a plant belonging to Investco. An expert explained the importance of nature conservation for society, and students were given a comic book to delve deeper into the subject. 500 copies of the book were also gifted to the local Fire Department, which will distribute it in the Firefighters Military Sports College.

On June 21, students from the Juscelino Kubitschek rural school (also in Lajeado) will attend the play "Where life begins", staged by the theater company Os Kaco. Using Brazilian folklore characters such as Saci, Curupira and Iara, the plot spells out the importance of nature conservation.

On June 22 the event will be attended by students from the Chico Ribeiro school in Peixe. The EDP Institute was also involved in a project called "Friends of the River". The purpose of the initiative is to clean the Tocantins River, which supplies Enerpeixe. Company workers and the local community joined efforts to complete the activity this Sunday (5). On that day the company also launched a series of talks, to be held throughout the month, on environmental education and water resource management in reservoirs.

This week, on the border between Mato Grosso and Pará, Empresa de Energia São Manoel will hold several lectures at the São Manoel HPP construction site (in partnership with the construction consortium) to discuss topics such as fishery monitoring and illegal wildlife trading.
