EDP Brasil and Multiplan install the largest rooftop solar farm in Brazil

4,160 solar panels capable of generating 2,000 megawatts/hour (MWh) per year, the equivalent to the monthly consumption of 1,000 households

EDP Brasil and the Multiplan Group inaugurated in November the largest rooftop solar farm in Brazil, located on Canoas ParkShopping - a new venture in Rio Grande do Sul, considered the most modern in the country. The project comprises no less than 4,160 solar panels on six photovoltaic generators, covering over 12,500 square meters on the mall rooftop.

The energy produced by the solar panels will be enough to cover 13 of the mall needs, thus contributing to making the facilities self-sustaining with renewable energy at a competitive cost. Furthermore, the complex will be able to generate 2,000 megawatts/hour (MWh) per year - the equivalent to the monthly consumption of 1,000 households.

The project is estimated to reduce CO2 emissions by over 160 tons/year, the equivalent to planting more than 12,000 trees. For the mall, the new farm will represent savings of 15% to 20% in energy bills compared to traditional supply methods.

"This is an enormously important project due to its size, proving once again EDP implementation capacity. Solar energy is a market with exponential growth in the country, so we have great ambitions in this area. We launched EDP Solar only a year ago, and we are already one of the industry leaders," says EDP Vice President for New Businesses Carlos Andrade.

EDP Solar, an EDP business unit focusing on the implementation of self-production and distributed-generation solar projects, is responsible for designing, building, operating, and maintaining the system.
