EDP Brasil and BMW Group create an 'electricity corridor' connecting Rio to SP

Tuesday 12, December 2017

EDP Brasil and the BMW Group will build the first corridor with electric vehicle charging stations connecting the cities of S‹o Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. With a combined investment of approximately R$1 million, the project plans to deploy six charging stations by the end of the first quarter of 2018, which will then be used to charge electric propulsion vehicles traveling on Presidente Dutra Highway, between the two state capitals.

An innovation leader in the electric power industry, EDP Brasil was the creator of the first Process Automation and Smart Grid projects in the Brazilian market, and it also implemented the first Smart Grid laboratory in Latin America.

"Electrical mobility is an inexorable trend, and EDP wants to be at the forefront of this transformation. By partnering with BMW we want to connect two of the major Brazilian cities with adequate infrastructure for promoting electric vehicles in the Brazilian market," says EDP Brasil CEO Miguel Setas.

BMW is the first company to sell electric vehicles on a grand scale in the country, offering two models: the BMW i3 (electric) and the BMW i8 (hybrid). The company is also a pioneer in the deployment of charging stations and is responsible, with other strategic partners, for installing about 70 charging stations across the country.

"BMW invests in electrification as a sustainable mobility reality and makes this concept an extension of the pleasure of driving," says Helder Boavida, CEO and Chairman of BMW Group Brazil." The BMW Group has a clear vision of the future: mobility will be autonomous, shared, electrified, and fully connected. We call these precepts ACES (Automated, Connected, Electrified, and Shared) and we will not deprive ourselves of playing a major role when discussing the subject," Boavida points out.
