EDP is awarded for fighting climate change by ÉPOCA Empresa Verde
The Company's Energy Efficiency Projects earned recognition in the 2017 edition of the Prize
EDP Brasil, a company that operates in all segments of the electric sector was selected last Monday, 04, as the best company in the Climate Change - Services category by the ƒPOCA Empresa Verde Awards 2017. In addition to receiving the distinction for its investments to promote energy efficiency, the company was also distinguished with the Empresa Verde trophy this year for their performance in the questionnaire evaluation.
The distinction awarded EDP was due to their commitment to reducing CO2 emissions and the energy consumption of its customers by 100GWh before 2020 with the expansion of energy efficient solutions. Through services that involve, for example, replacing inefficient lamps with LED technology and the modernization of refrigeration systems, a reduction of 57 GWh has already been achieved, equivalent to all energy that is produced by the Itaipu plant in five months.
On another front, EDP Brasil developed in 2016 a unit focused on distributing photo voltaic solar generation, a market that should be one of the most prosperous in the coming years. Through EDP Solar, the objective is to conclude the year with a 5 megawatts peak traded, corresponding to about 300 tonnes of CO2 and greenhouse gas emissions avoided.
The ƒPOCA Empresa Verde Award clasification process was supported by PWC consultancy services and a board of directors made up of some of the most important authorities in the area of sustainability, involving questions about the group environmental strategy, including climate change incentives for issues such as biodiversity impact, the use of renewable raw materials, conscious consumption of water and energy, waste disposal and innovation in the development of processes.
