EDP and Banco do Brasil sign R$ 86 million contract in Energy Trading

This is the largest partnership for migration to the Free Market in the country on the retailer mode, which brings more security, agility and simplification for the client

São Paulo, June 20, 2018 - EDP, a company that operates in all the segments of the electric sector in Brazil, and the Banco do Brasil sign on Wednesday (20) the largest energy trading agreement of the country in the retail mode. R$ 86 million will be traded on the Free Market between 2019 and 2023, which corresponds to a monthly average supply of 10 megawatts (average MW).

At the partnership will serve 24 consumer units of the institution, including two strategic buildings in Brasilia, processing centers and the largest corporate buildings of the group in all regions of the country. With the migration to the Free Contracting Place (ACL), the Bank of Brazil will have saved about R$ 50 million over a five-year period, equivalent to more than 30% savings in the energy account of these units.

Among the advantages offered by the retail marketing model, is the reduction of bureaucracy and the necessary expenses for access to the Free Market, flexibility in case of variation of consumption, free negotiation of prices and conditions, non-application of additional cost with tariff flags, as well as predictability in the electricity bill.

At the energy acquired will be of an incentive type, originating from small generators of renewable sources such as wind, solar and SHPs. According to the president of EDP, Miguel Setas, "this contract marks a new phase of the national electricity sector, with the consolidation of retail commercialization joining one of the largest banking institutions and one of the leading companies in the electricity sector in a sustainable project that, in addition to reducing costs, enhances the operational efficiency of our Customer. "

According to Paulo Caffarelli, Banco do Brasil president, the insertion into the Free Energy Market is a milestone in BB history, because at the same time during which the Bank carefully manages its administrative expenses it chooses to consume energy from renewable sources. "With this agreement, we align two fundamental attributes for our company: the constant search for operational improvement and the adoption of practices ever more sustainable in the realization and support of our businesses. "

EDP was one of the pioneers to obtain the qualification to act as commercial retailer. In this modality, the Company assumes risks and becomes responsible for the management of the hiring process of energy and the operation of those represented in the Free Market, including migration and all procedures related to the procedure before the Chamber of Commercialization of Electric Energy (CCEE).
