EDP accelerates growth with acquisition of power efficiency company

The company announces investment of R$27.2 million for the purchase of APS

EDP, a company engaged in electricity generation, trading and distribution, has purchased, through its subsidiary company EDP Grid Gestão de Rede Distribuição SA, 100% of the shares of APS, an energy conservation company. With this operation, the company strengthens its position in the Brazilian market.

EDP Grid provides infrastructure work services, power efficiency projects, distributed photovoltaic generation projects, and projects focusing on disseminating the concept of smart electricity grids. "The operation is in line with EDP strategy of investing in energy services. We have been taking several measures to provide our customers with innovative and sustainable solutions. With this operation we have expanded our portfolio in the area," says EDP president Miguel Setas.

With this purchase EDP strengthens its commitment to invest in the power efficiency market, which should comprise R$3.4 billion up to 2018. With a growing demand and a challenging market scenario, we are combining our experience in the electricity market with the expertise of APS to consolidate our position in the power efficiency industry," Setas points out.

In addition to efficiency projects, EDP Grid, a company created in 2014, offers its customers a complete diagnosis of their electricity system and the implementation of transmission, distribution and maintenance systems. In its first year of operation, the company revenues amounted to R$12 million. And the goal is to reach R$ 100 million by 2020.
