At the Dr. Jayme Santos Neves State Hospital located in Serra, Espírito Santo, kicked off the year with some good news. The unit was included in the Public Call for Energy Efficiency Programs, organized by EDP Espírito Santo, and will have their whole lighting system replaced. Altogether, 9,316 light bulbs inside and outside the hospital will be replaced with LEDs.

“LEDs are known for their lower energy usage, high yield and longer working life and the also have less of an environmental impact. The hospital will see a significant cut in its energy bill”, said Afonso Celso da Silva, executive manager for Revenue Recovery at EDP.

At the project has a budget of around R$ 600 thousand, while yearly savings are expected to reach R$ 660 thousand. This project covers the replacement of light bulbs and should reduce energy consumption by 1,101MWh/year, equal to the average energy usage of 450 households. The new equipment will have a working life of 25 thousand hours, or around three years.

“The total cost of the project is the sum of material, equipment, labor, waste disposal and training involved, as well as results verification and assessment. The unit will also support the project by providing manpower”, said electrical engineer Tarciso Colodetti, representative of ECO Energia, the company responsible for the energy efficiency project.

Atraditional light bulbs are already being replaced with LEDs  and the project should be concluded by April. Rogerio Griffo, the hospital’s managing director, believes customers will have a better experience because of these savings.

“We were interested in the energy efficiency program, registered our institution and were gifted this opportunity. AEBES, the social organization that manages the Dr. Jayme Hospital, understands that we need to make the best possible use of public funds and that is why we sought to improve flows and adjust our processes. The money we will save across all of our operations will be invested in a better experience for our customers”, said Griffo.

Planned actions

- Install 7501 Tubular Led light bulbs - 18W, 210cm, 6500 k;

- Install 876 Tubular Led light bulbs - 9W, 60cm, 6500 k.

- Install 792 Led light bulbs - 8W, A60, 6500 k;

- Install 140 parking lot lighting fixtures - 50W, 5000 k;

- Install 130 brackets for the parking lot lighting fixtures;

- Deploy 7 81W, 5000 k light bulbs in the reception;
