Conscious use of electricity is the theme of World Energy Day

Thursday 28, May 2015

World Energy Day, celebrated on May 29, puts on the agenda the conscious use of energy. For EDP, a company that operates in the area of the commercialization, generation and distribution of electricity in Portugal, energy efficiency is on the permanent agenda. Last year, the company invested around R$ 21 million in programs aimed at the reasonable use of the resource.

The commitment of the EDP group to responsible consumption is reflected in its projects, and the company understands that the high commitment of everybody involved in these actions has the result of focusing on generating benefits in a fast and concrete way for customers.

Boa Energia na ComunidadeAgentes da Boa Energia, Boa Energia nas Escolas, are some of EDP energy efficiency projects. The actions range from regulating small businesses and housing installations to debt negotiation and guidance for families with the aim of reducing the waste of electricity. Another action undertaken in the energy efficiency programs is the sharing of ideas about the conscious use of electricity by means of experiments, games and a residence consumption simulator, shared with students. This way, children become multipliers, sharing knowledge in their homes.

On the other hand, InovCity, started in Aparecida, São Paulo, in 2011, and the municipalities of Domingos Martins and Marechal Floriano in Espírito Santo in 2014, distributed electronic lamps, refrigerators and solar heating kits for shower water. Besides this, the project replaced analog energy meters with electronic ones that enable measuring electricity consumption with greater accuracy, in addition to providing useful information to customers in an agile and accurate manner, so promoting the rational use of electricity. This project has benefited more than 19 thousand consumer units in both states.

In 2015, EDP Group energy efficiency projects will continue. Included among these is the "Boa Energia nas Escolas" Project, which is currently taking knowledge about electricity and its reasonable use to schools in the city of Pindamonhangaba in São Paulo, and Domingos Martins in Espírito Santo.
