Brazilian Startup is one of the winners of EDP Open Innovation 2017
São Paulo team proposes marketplace platform for transactions with distributed photovoltaic energy using Blockchain technology
Brazilian company COSOL Condom’nio Solar was selected by the EDP Open InnovationAward as one of the best startups in the energy sector worldwide. The S‹o Paulo team was one of the winners of the second edition with the creation of an online marketplace that enables energy transactions from distributed photovoltaic generation. After more than 363 applications from Brazil, Spain, France and Portugal, the 14 finalist startups pitched their projects last Thursday (October 26).
Founded by Csaba Sulyok and Paloma Silva, the winning startup stood out with a project for the creation of a marketplace that connects energy producers and consumers who wish to remotely acquire distributed solar generation quotas. Users can rent quotas to receive clean and cheaper energy by using blockchain technology.
The team will be taken to pitch their proposal at the EDP stand on the Web Summit, the largest and most important tech startup event in Europe, to be held from November 6 to 9. They will be joined by the two other best teams in the competition, hailing from Spain and Portugal.
"Once again, Brazilian startups stand out in the global entrepreneurship ecosystem. COSOL, the selected Brazilian startup, presents a solution focusing on distributed solar generation and blockchain technology, both of which important topics for EDP Brasil," says EDP Brasil Manager for Innovation Livia Brando. "After last year winning team - Delfos Intelligent Maintenance - the country once again makes up the largest number of applications, besides being the country with the most finalist teams," she adds.
With the goal of encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship, EDP - a company that operates in all segments of the electricity value chain - has created the EDP Open Innovation award in 2016. In addition to giving due prominence to projects that can change the electricity market, the competition is also a gateway into EDP Starter Brasil - an acceleration and development program for projects focusing on the energy market.
Along with Spanish and Portuguese startups, other five Brazilian teams have reached the competition final: CUBi Energia, Enercred, SeGrid, Sii Smart Buildings, and SunFlower Power System. Over the last month, all teams joined an acceleration program held by the EDP Innovation Ecosystem and F‡brica de Startups (Startup Factory) in Portugal. Even if they have not won the competition, participants may be invited to join the EDP Starter program and receive funding from EDP Ventures, the Group global investment fundfor startups. /p>
