EDP, a company that operates throughout the electricity sector's value chain, acquired a 100% stake in Celg Transmissão SA (Celg-T) in an auction held this Thursday (14), by the National Agency of Electrical Energy (Aneel). The purchase of the transmission pillar of the state-owned company in Goiás was carried out for R$1.977 billion reais. The Company estimates an additional permitted annual revenue (RAP) of R$ 223 million in the 2021/2022 cycle, through the acquisition of 756 kilometers of transmission networks and 14 substations that predominantly run through the state of Goiás.
The concession period for the operation in the state of Goiás is until the period between 2043 and 2046. The Midwest region has a strong growth in energy demand and in the last 10 years its growth was 3.7 times higher than the average for the country, which is explained by the base of its economy – agribusiness – which requires large amounts of energy.
The result of the auction reinforces the EDP Group's presence in Brazil and the Company's strategic commitment to investments in Networks (Distribution and Transmission), in line with its Strategic Plan 2021-2025. “The segment of networks, Transmission and Distribution, is one of the priorities for the growth of EDP in the country in the coming years. The acquisition of Celg T reinforces the diversification of our portfolio, in our constant search for assets with attractive returns and controlled risk”, says João Marques da Cruz, President of EDP in Brazil.
Celg T is the result of the split of assets of Celg Geração e Transmissão (Celg GT), announced by the State of Goiás in the first half of 2021.
Transmission Investments
The Company has already invested R$4.1 billion in Transmission works and projects, representing 80% of its total CAPEX execution in the states of Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Maranhão and Espírito Santo, Acre and Rondônia.
Recently, the Company concluded the operation of Lot 07 of the Aneel Auction No. 005/2016, 11 months in advance, reinforcing the electricity supply in the state of Maranhão.
