Committed to equal opportunities between genders, EDP will offer complete professional training and the possibility of hiring

- EDP, an Espírito Santo's electricity retailer, promotes this Monday, 9, the first class of the Electricians School, exclusively for women. There were more than 3,400 applications and 32 candidates were selected. They will be assigned to two groups. Enrollments took place last year, but on the account of the Covid-19 pandemic, classes will only start at this time. To mark the beginning of classes, an opening ceremony was held with the participation of the vice president of distribution of EDP in Brazil, João Brito Martins, the director of EDP in Espírito Santo, Fernando Saliba, and the director of Senai Mariana Fonseca.

The Electrician School offers scholarships during the course, full professional training and the possibility of hiring. The program is a pioneering in the electricity industry and is part of the EDP Group’s commitment to developing actions to promote equal opportunities between genders.

About the course and enrollments

With a workload of approximately 550 hours and about three and a half months long, the Electricians School is free and focuses on the qualification and training of women as electricians’ distribution networks. The initiative is a partnership between EDP and the National Service for Industrial Learning (SENAI).

After completing the course, the students will be awarded a certificate certified by SENAI and will remain in the EDP talent bank, being able to participate in future selection processes for effective vacancies.

The course’s classes will be both theoretical and practical on the principles and laws that govern the operation of electrical systems. The aim is for participants to learn about the procedures and techniques necessary for planning, executing, evaluating and inspecting networks, as well as about preventive and corrective maintenance, within technical and safety standards.  At the end of the course, it is expected that the professionals will be trained for the labor market.

In addition to the stipend during the course period, the students will receive teaching materials, uniforms, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and a snack on site.
