First stretch of Lot 21 connects the cities of Biguaçu, Siderópolis and Forquilhinhas. The project has a total investment of R$ 1.1 billion

EDP, a company that operates in all segments of the Brazilian electricity sector, has completed the necessary steps to power up and integrate part of Lot 21 of energy transmission lines into the National Interconnected System. The stretch will account for connecting the cities of Biguaçu, Siderópolis and Forquilhinhas.

Lot 21 is made up of a partnership between EDP and Celesc, in the proportion of 90% EDP and 10% Celesc. The Partnership between the companies won lot 21 of the Public Electricity Transmission Service Concession Auction No. 05/16, carried out by the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) in April 2017, forming the concessionaire EDP Transmissão Aliança SC.

The Company also celebrates the delivery of the Siderópolis 2 substation, with a transformation capacity of 672 MW and a set of Power Transmission Lines totaling 180km.  In this phase of the work, more than R$ 1.1 billion was invested, generating approximately 4,000 direct jobs and a capacity for transformation that can serve more than 1.6 million families in the municipalities.

Lot 21 Block 1 consists of a substation with voltage levels of 500/230 kV, with a transformation capacity of 672MW. Two power transmission lines are still part of this complex, one of them is 525kV with a length of 151km, which connects SC to the most important power grid in the Brazilian electricity sector. The other 230kV line departs from SE Siderópolis 2 and goes to Forquilhinha, covering 28 km, adding another interconnection to the region and increasing the reliability of energy supply.

“Adding our projects in the State, we have an investment of R$ 1.7 billion in Santa Catarina. This demonstrates our commitment to the region's development. The completion of the first stretch of lot 21 reinforces EDP's excellence in the execution of its works, which is why the Transmission segment continues to be one of the priorities of the Company's strategy for the coming years. We remain attentive to opportunities to acquire new contracts in the primary market, via auctions, and in the secondary. We want to add our expertise in managing large infrastructure projects and implement the concept of asset rotation”, highlights João Marques da Cruz, CEO of EDP in Brazil.

“Lot 21 has great representation, as it consolidates a new interconnection in the State of Santa Catarina with the 500kV system, the most important electric segment in the National Interconnected System. Therefore, it is a great satisfaction to complete the stage of this project, which will strengthen the infrastructure of the benefited municipalities and further boost the region's economic development”, says EDP Vice President Luiz Otavio Henriques.

Transmission Investments

EDP has already invested R$ 3.3 billion in works and Transmission projects, representing 83% of total CAPEX execution. A total of R$ 4.1 billion will be allocated by the end of 2021 for the construction of more than 1.5 thousand kilometers of lines and six substations in the states of Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Maranhão and Espírito Santo .

In addition to Lot 21, EDP is responsible for the construction of lot Q of power transmission lines, which connects the cities of Tubarão and Siderópolis. The company is also the main non-controlling shareholder of Celesc.
