Equipment was delivered to the São Camilo Maternity Hospital, in Aracruz

EDP, Espírito Santo's electricity distributor, has donated more than 8,500 PFF2/n95 type masks to the São Camilo Maternity Hospital, in Aracruz. The protection items will be targeted at professionals who work on the front lines in the fight against Covid-19. The delivery of the equipment was made this Wednesday, 26th, by the vice president of distribution at EDP in Brazil, João Brito Martins, executive director of the institution, Wellington Lozer Giacomin.

PFF2/n95 masks have a higher filtering power than surgical masks and are recommended to stop viruses spread by aerosols. The equipment will strengthen the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) of health professionals who work to fight the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

“Hospitals are in great demand during this crisis. For this reason, EDP is once again on the side of the state of Espírito Santo and its population. Hospital São Camilo carries out a very important job for the region and we hope that this resource will provide more security in serving the population of Espírito Santo”, says the vice-president of distribution of EDP in Brazil, João Brito Martins.

The executive director of Hospital São Camilo, Wellington Lozer Giacomin, highlighted the importance of the action. “More than the financial importance of the donation, the expression of concern and affection we receive from renowned companies, such as EDP, adds not only to the hospital services, but also to the motivational factor. Thus, it demonstrates that we are all united in favor of a common interest: preserving and saving lives”.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Company has allocated more than R$ 2.5 million to actions to support the government and state entities in the fight against Covid-19. Last April, the Company donated 60 beds, through the Espírito Santo em Ação business movement and in partnership with two other private companies, for the semi-intensive treatment of patients affected by the virus. The structures were assembled in an area attached to the Roberto Silvares hospital, in the municipality of São Mateus, in the north of the state.

Through the Federation of Industries of Espírito Santo (Findes) and partner companies, EDP has also donated 4,250 portable digital finger oximeters, used to measure oxygen saturation in the blood. The equipment is being distributed to Espirito Santo municipalities with the objective of strengthening First Aid Health Care in the fight against the new Coronavirus (Covid-19).

In 2020, R$ 1 million was donated to Santa Casa de Misericórdia in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, in the south of the state, for the purchase of individual protection supplies, equipment and medicines for the care of Covid-19 patients. In addition, 11 social projects were selected in the EDP Solidária – Covid 19 notice, to put into practice their actions to fight the coronavirus in vulnerable communities in the state. The choice of projects had the participation of an external committee formed by Carlo Pereira, executive director of the Global Compact in Brazil, and Regina Esteves, president of the social organization Comunitas, and was audited by EY.
