EDP starts partial operation of transmission line and substation in Santa Catarina
The first section of Lot Q was delivered and connects the cities of Tubarão and Siderópolis. Work has a total investment of R$ 407 million
EDP, a company that operates in all segments of the Brazilian electricity sector, has completed the necessary steps to energize and integrate part of Lot Q of power transmission lines into the National Interconnected System. Located in the state of Santa Catarina, the section delivered connects the cities of Tubarão and Siderópolis and includes the Tubarão Sul substation, comprising three transformers with a total capacity of 450 MVA.
The work has a total investment of R$ 407 million and generates approximately 500 direct jobs in both states. Lot Q consists of 142 kilometers of transmission lines, two substations that interconnect the states of Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, covering 12 municipalities in Santa Catarina, and 10 cities in Rio Grande do Sul, between Tubarão (SC) and Torres (RS). The second stretch of the project, between Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, continues at an accelerated pace of works.
“Once again, EDP stands out for the excellence in the execution of its works, which is why the Transmission segment continues to be one of the priorities of the Company's strategy for the coming years. We intend to acquire new contracts in the primary market, via auctions, and also in the secondary. But our interest will always be in unbuilt lots, to which we can add our expertise in managing large infrastructure projects and implement the concept of asset rotation,” says João Marques da Cruz, CEO of EDP in Brazil.
“For EDP, it is a source of pride to complete another important stage of this undertaking, which, in addition to generating jobs, reinforces the infrastructure in the south of Santa Catarina, increasing its competitiveness and further enhancing the region's economic development,” says Luiz Otavio Henriques, Vice President of Generation, Transmission and Trading at EDP in Brazil.
Transmission Investments
EDP has already invested R$3.3 billion in Transmission works and projects, representing 80% of total CAPEX execution. It will be R$ 4.1 billion by the end of 2021 for the construction of more than 1.5 thousand kilometers of lines and six substations in the states of Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Maranhão and Espírito Santo.
In addition to Lot Q, EDP is mainly responsible for the construction of Lot 21 of transmission lines, also in Santa Catarina. The project includes the installation of 433 kilometers of lines between the Santa Catarina municipalities of Biguaçu and Campos Novos. The company is also the main non-controlling shareholder of Celesc.
