EDP Institute initiates the 2021 activities of the EDP program in Schools
The initiative brings benefits for approximately 10,700 students from 44 public schools
The EDP Institute, an organization that has been managing the EDP Group's social and environmental investments for twelve years, started out the EDP's annual activities in schools, a program that aims to improve the learning process and supports students and teachers from public schools on Friday, February 26. The program brings benefit for 44 schools from 9 states: São Paulo, Espírito Santo, Rio Grande do Sul, Mato Grosso, Pará, Amapá, Ceará, Tocantins and Rio Grande do Norte.
Approximately 10,700 students from the 1st to the 5th year will be directly benefited in the country. In 2021, the program will focus on “Climate Change” and will explore the current global context, in line with the SDGs - Sustainable Development Goals. The theme will be worked on integrating the pillars of inclusive education.
For the first time, indigenous schools, located in Mato Grosso and Pará, are included in the program. The benefits will be provided to 7 schools, namely: Itaawy'ak Indigenous State School, Waro Bachempo Municipal School, Santa Izabel Municipal School, Bom Futuro Municipal Elementary School, Getúlio Vargas Municipal School (Pará) and Getúlio Vargas Municipal School (Mato Grosso).
Throughout the year, students will also undergo actions to encourage reading and have extracurricular virtual reality experiences, in order to stimulate the learning process. As for teachers, the program offers training shaped within the national curriculum core and holds webinars, with the objective of discussing topics of interest. In addition to benefits for students and teachers, schools receive support for improving infrastructure.
The initiative reached its 20th edition and is the main project of the EDP Institute. The program, which is carried out jointly with the municipal education departments, promotes actions during the school term, aiming at improving the school environment. The action encourages, empowers and rewards the creative potential of children and adolescents in schools.
“Education continues to be one of the pillars of the EDP Institute's performance. In this sense, the EDP in Schools program has contributed year by year to the improvement of teaching in the institutions it benefits from. We have good prospects that the results will remain positive in 2021”, comments Paulo Ramicelli, director advisor at the EDP Institute.
The pandemic context made the program adapt according to the needs of the schools. For this, a diagnosis of all participating institutions was made, which will serve as a basis for the development of activities in each of them.
EDP in Schools is aligned with the BNCC - National Common Curricular Core. In 2020, according to the evaluation from school principals, the Program strongly contributed to Educational Performance, encouraged reading and writing and raised awareness among the school community about respect for biodiversity.
