EDP Smart and Porsche set up partnership and expand the experience of EV charging station customers in Brazil
EDP Smart, a division that comprising EDP's portfolio of energy solutions, entered into a partnership with Porsche to expand the experience of customers of the German brand in the Company's public EV charging points in the country. Anyone purchasing an electric vehicle of the brand, such as the new Porsche Taycan or the hybrid versions of Cayenne or Panamera, is already entitled to receive a customized card (EV.Card), that will grant access to use one of EDP's 50 active public EV charging points in Brazil.
With the EV.Card Porsche-EDP at hand, the customer will be able to unlock EV charging points by placing the card near a reader next to the equipment screen, identifying the user. The card activation process will be done on an exclusive page for Porsche customers, that will be enabling users to use the EDP EV application. Charge Br, which accounts more than 100 registered drivers in Brazil.
Through the app, electric car owners can find available charging stations, manage their charges and remotely free up the use of chargers, via their cell phone. Customers will also be included to exclusive campaigns on theEDP Smartwebsite, such as offering solar panels and even residential services such as hiring electricians, plumbers, locksmiths, through the EDP Facilita service.
By the end of 2022, EDP plans to triple the available charging points. The Company has already presented projects on Electric Mobility to Aneel that represent investments above R$ 50 million. A major project among these, which has Porsche as a partner, provides for the installation of 30 ultra-fast charging stations that will cover the entire state of São Paulo until next year. The country’s main electric passageways will be in the same network, connecting São Paulo to other cities in the state and the capitals of other states, shaping up a power grid over 2,500 kilometers long. This is the first and largest project in South America to install ultra-fast chargers (150kW and 350kW), with an investment of R$ 32.9 million. The first ultra-fast EV charging station was opened in October 2020 in Caraguatatuba, on the north coast of São Paulo, and other new EV charging stations will be announced in 2021.
In Brazil, EDP has already made significant investments in electric mobility. In 2018, in association with another partner, EDP opened an electric network for EV charging points between Rio and São Paulo. Located over 430 kilometers of the Presidente Dutra Highway, the charging stations enabled drivers to carry out a complete trip in an electric vehicle between the two most populous capitals of Brazil.
As early as late 2019, EDP finished the installation of the largest electric vehicle charging network in Espírito Santo, with the implantation of seven charging points throughout the State.
