How will school return be as the competent bodies authorize the resumption of classroom activities for young people and children in schools in Brazil? With this in mind and aware of the challenge of providing a safer environment, the EDP in Schools Program, created by the EDP Institute, responsible for the EDP Group's social environmental actions, in September and October has distributed cloth masks, wall dispensers, gallons of alcohol in gel and infrared thermometers to combat COVID-19 in 37 public elementary schools in seven Brazilian states.

Overall, the Program will deliver 22,410 adult and child size masks, 152 dispensers, 152 gallons of alcohol in gel of 5 liters each and 76 infrared thermometers throughout the country. Each school will receive 100 cloth masks for teachers and staff, two children's cloth masks per student, two to six wall-mounted gel alcohol dispensers with information adhesive, in addition to 10 to 30 liters of alcohol in gel and one to three infrared thermometers.

We understand that, more than ever, in this pandemic moment, it is essential to think about actions that go beyond pedagogical teaching, providing children, teachers and employees with an environment of intellectual growth, health and well-being”, analyzes Paulo Ramicelli, advisor to board of the EDP Institute.

Held jointly with the municipal education departments, the schools benefited by the delivery of the kit are part of the EDP in Schools Program which, throughout the school year, develops social educational actions for students from the 1st to the 9th grade of elementary school aiming at improving quality student life. The action encourages, empowers and rewards the creative potential of children and adolescents in schools.

EDP nas Escolas is aligned with the BNCC - National Common Curricular Base. In 2019, according to the evaluation of school principals, the Program strongly contributed to Educational Performance, encouraged reading and writing and raised awareness among the school community about respect for biodiversity.
