The investment will be over R$ 3 million in five projects selected in the concession area

EDP, an electric energy distributor in Espírito Santo, announces the projects included in the Public Call for Energy Efficiency, to encourage the conservation and rational use of electricity. More than R$ 3 million will be invested in five selected projects in the municipalities of Vitória, Cariacica, Montanha, Aracruz and Sooretama.

The initiatives selected by EDP's Public Call for Energy Efficiency will provide a reduction in the energy consumption of the benefited institutions by approximately 3,153 megawatt-hours (MWh/year), equivalent to the average annual consumption of approximately 1,311 families.

Among the winners are the cities of Cariacica and Montanha, which will benefit from the exchange of common street lighting to LED. In total there will be 1,115 luminaires. In addition to the reduction in energy consumption, there is also a reduction in maintenance costs, since the LED lamp life is much longer than the system currently used. The new model also generates less environmental impact because it does not contain mercury and other harmful components in its composition.

Three units of the solidarity organization Cáritas, installed in Aracruz and Sooretama, will also benefit from the replacement of 250 lamps, 12 split air conditioning units and the installation of 77 photovoltaic modules. Another project will be implemented in the Attorney's Office, in Vitória, with the replacement of 4 split air conditioners and installation of 84 photovoltaic panels.

The Solidary Efficiency project, which works through an itinerant service center to raise residential customers' awareness of the efficient use of energy and enables the exchange of common lamps for LEDs, will also be carried out. In all, around 40 thousand old lamps will be replaced. The contemplated municipalities that will still be selected.

“Benefiting solidarity institutions, the population and public services in the concession area through energy efficiency programs and making public lighting in cities more efficient is in line with our purpose of Using our energy to always take better care. We will be able to contribute directly to the safe and rational use of electric energy through the contemplated projects, and, consequently, to the reduction of energy expenses and a better use of natural resources”, says Vanessa Lugon, executive manager of EDP.

Carrying out projects that result in energy efficiency is an action that reaffirms EDP's commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - a global action plan defined by the United Nations (UN) to achieve sustainable development by 2030, and which is incorporated into the Company's strategic agenda to grow, generating positive impacts on society and the environment.
