EDP Live Bands opens registration for its 5th edition

Independent rock and pop rock bands can apply until April, 5th; Contest winner will play at NOS Alive’20 in Portugal

 

 

Registration is now open for the 5th edition of EDP Live Bands, a band contest created by EDP to promote music and national talent. This initiative offers groups the possibility to show their work and perform live on the stage of one of the biggest festivals in Europe, NOS Alive'20. The contest is aimed at independent rock or pop rock bands.

The registration period will run from March 3 to April 5. To participate, the bands must register an original song on the contest website (edplivebands.edp.com). In the interactive platform, which has an interface for Facebook, audios and videos of the participating bands will be available. There will be 36 semi-finalist bands, 26 will be selected by the jury, taking into account criteria such as originality and technical and musical quality, and 10 will be chosen by popular vote on the contest website.

Among the semifinalists, 6 will go to the grand final, which this year, will take place on May 16th, at the Manifesto Bar in São Paulo. In addition to the concert, the bands selected for the final will participate in a workshop with experts from the music industry, as well as representatives of the various project partners A unique opportunity to share experiences and receive advice on how to make a career in the competitive national artistic world.

Since its first edition, in 2014, EDP Live Bands has received more than 8,300 applications and awarded 14 bands (12 First Prizes and 2 Honorable Mentions) in the three countries where it is present. In addition to Portugal, in Brazil the contest started in 2016 and Spain will have its 3rd edition this year.

In the last edition in 2019, EDP Live Bands awarded the Minas Gerais band ETC (etcétera). The group played at Nos Alive'19, one of the biggest music festivals in Europe, which had performances by Vampire Weekend and Greta Van Fleet.  Formed in 2011 by vocalist Dudu, drummer Balut and bassist Vinicius, the band has already released two albums: “Céu Grande”, in 2014, and “Sintonia”, in 2018. The band has already shared the stage with renowned artists such as O Rappa, Natiruts, Criolo and Nando Reis. Some of his songs have already been played on local radio. The group won an award at WebfestValda 2017, at Fundição Progresso - Rio de Janeiro - and recently won another musical contest, #showlivreday, in São Paulo.
