The EDP LED Truck is coming to Itaqua to replace traditional light bulb with LED

Friday 05, October 2018

Bulbs can be exchanged at the kiosk in Padre Joao Alvares Square, in the City Center

Starting next Monday (8), residents of Itaquaquecetuba will have the opportunity to take part in a sustainability and energy saving project. The Led Truck project, by EDP, an electrical energy distributor from the Alto Tietê region, will provide 15 thousand LED light bulbs that are more efficient, durable, safe and eco-friendly compared with traditional light bulbs. Bulbs can be exchanged at the kiosk in Padre Joao Alvares Square, in the City Center.

Each customer can replace up to five energy-hungry light bulbs (incandescent, halogen or compact fluorescent bulbs) for LEDs. Upon replacement, customers can also register to receive their energy bills by e-mail or receive a free light bulb if they have already done so. Participants must be a local resident and not have any outstanding electricity bills.

The Led Truck, part of the Community Efficiency Project, is an initiative by the Energy Efficiency Program - EEP, by EDP Sao Paulo and regulated by ANEEL. This cycle will provide 60 thousand LED light bulbs for residents in Ferraz de Vasconcelos, Poa, Suzano and Itaquaquecetuba. The campaign aims to encourage people to use energy correctly, benefitting residents across the concession area. In addition to helping local residents, 250 LED light bulbs will be donated to regional social institutions at the end of the campaign.

“Itaquaquecetuba is the last city in this Project’s cycle and it is extremely rewarding seeing everyone so enthusiastic about the campaign and spreading information on safe and efficient energy use”, said Luciano Cavalcante, executive manager at EDP. It is worth noting that the LED light bulbs are more efficient and have a smaller environmental impact as they do not contain mercury or other toxic components.

Over 18.5 thousand customers have benefitted from the Community Efficiency campaign since the beginning of 2017. Energy generation savings reached 3,222.62 megawatt-hours per year (MWh/year), equivalent to the amount of electricity needed to supply approximately 1,300 households annually.  Furthermore, light bulbs exchanged by customers were sent to an ecologically correct disposal center.

How to participate

Customers must reside in the city the Led Truck is visiting and meet at the designated exchange point. There, they can hand over up to five incandescent, halogen or compact fluorescent light bulbs which can be exchanged for the same number of LED lights. If the customer receives their electricity bill via e-mail or registers their email when replacing their bulbs, they will receive an additional light bulb.

To qualify, customers must provide their latest electricity bill and an ID document, and have no outstanding bills.
