Investment will allow the bus terminal to be self-sufficient and provide more safety and comfort to the population using public transport

EDP, an energy distributor in Espírito Santo, is implementing energy efficiency actions in the lighting systems of the Ibes Terminal, in Vila Velha, with the replacement of obsolete equipment with more efficient technologies, and installation of a photovoltaic energy generation system. The investment of R$ 450 thousand will make the place self-sufficient and the excess energy will be transferred to another installation of the State Passenger Collective Transportation Company of the State of Espírito Santo (Ceturb-ES), the Vila Velha Terminal.

The project includes the installation of 224 solar energy generation modules, with a capacity of 75 𝑘𝑊𝑝𝑖𝑐𝑜, and an estimated savings of 138.17 MWh/year, equivalent to the consumption of approximately 57 homes during one year (considering one house consumption of 200kWh/month).

The actions in the lighting system, consist of the exchange of compact fluorescent lamps, tubular, metallic steam and reactors for LED lamps and luminaires, with respect to the luminaires 133 inefficient lamps will be replaced by 187 lamps and LED luminaires.

The replacement of lighting also reduces maintenance costs, since the LED lamp lasts for around 25 thousand hours (about 25 times more than incandescent lamps and 4 times more than compact fluorescent lamps). The new system also generates less environmental impact because it does not have mercury and other harmful components in its composition.

“Through investments, EDP always seeks to offer more and more sustainable actions in the production of electric energy and expand the reach of renewable sources, such as solar. The Ibes Terminal project, in addition to modernizing the location, will provide improvements such as more safety and comfort to the population using public transport”, comments Alexandre Rodello, manager of Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Consumption at EDP.

The project was included in the Public Call for Projects of EDP's Energy Efficiency Program, which is regulated by the National Agency of Electrical Energy - ANEEL, and the finalization of the project's implementation will take place in November this year.

The CEO of Ceturb-ES, Raphael Trés, stressed the importance of projects like this, to add value and quality to the mass transit system of the Greater Vitória Metropolitan Region. "Ceturb-ES thanks EDP for the project that is in line with the context of environmental and economic sustainability, in addition to encouraging innovation and technological support". He also congratulated the engineering team of Ceturb-ES for their commitment, since the project was proposed.

EDP's Public Call benefits actions by individuals and companies that aim to improve or replace installations in the network, equipment and systems for controlling electricity use, in order to reduce energy consumption in homes, businesses, industries, public buildings and private individuals, public hospitals and charities, public lighting, among others.

In the previous editions, projects with the modernization of the lighting, air conditioning and photovoltaic generation systems benefited from the Public Call, which involved the consumer units of the Jaime Santos Neves Hospital, Arcelor Mittal, located in the municipality of Serra, administrative headquarters of the State Federal Police and Hospital Evangélico de Vila Velha, both in Vila Velha, six buildings of the State Prosecutor's Office located in cities in the concession area, in addition to the Solidary Efficiency project, which carried out in 2019, the replacement of 60 thousand lamps of higher consumption by LED residential customers, in the municipalities of Castelo, Apiacá, Mimoso do Sul and Cachoeiro de Itapemirim.
