EDP, an electric energy distributor in Espírito Santo, through the EDP Institute and in partnership with the NGO Voluntários do Bem, will deliver 167 food cards to the population of Nova Venécia, in the north of the state. The action takes place on July 6 at the headquarters of Crás, located at Avenida São Paulo, 465, Bairro Nova Cidade - Boa Esperança District, from 1 pm to 3 pm, and at the Sports Gym, located at Rua Presidente Costa e Silva, from 3 pm at 5 pm. In addition, on July 7 at Igreja São Jorge, located at Rua Valderedo Farias, from 9 am to 11 am and at Pastoral da Criança, located at Rua Jasmin S/N, from 1 pm to 3 pm.

With an investment of R$ 55 thousand reais, it is estimated that around 167 families in the region will benefit from the Bem Maior Project, during three months. In addition, local market will also be impacted by the initiative, since with the use of the food card by families to purchase basic supplies and hygiene care in the region, the economy will be boosted to traders in the region.

“We opted for this type of benefit to families in order to give them greater power of choice over the real needs that each one is currently experiencing and, with the distribution of cards, EDP will also contribute to the region's market, which was also quite impacted by the pandemic ”, comments Fernando Saliba, EDP director in Espírito Santo.

In addition to food cards, Nova Venécia residents received 35 basic food baskets delivered by the NGO Voluntários do Bem in partnership with the EDP Institute earlier this week.

In the EDP Solidária - Covid 19 notice, EDP opted to dedicate exclusively R$ 550 thousand to Espírito Santo out of the R $ 2.1 million foreseen by the notice to support initiatives from all over Brazil.  In March, EDP made a donation of R$ 1 million to Santa Casa de Misericórdia in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim for the purchase of individual protection supplies, equipment and medicines for the care of Covid-19 patients.

The proceeds of the call for tender are being transferred by the EDP Institute to the entities responsible for the 11 selected projects and will directly benefit around 1,800 families in poor communities. In this first phase, projects focused on social assistance, food and personal hygiene items were prioritized.

 The announcement received more than 600 projects from all Brazilian states in just over ten days. The choice of projects had the participation of an external committee formed by Carlo Pereira, executive director of the Global Pact in Brazil, and Regina Esteves, CEO of the social organization Comunitas and was audited by EY.
