EDP and JAC Motors establish a partnership to expand electric mobility segment

Wednesday 18, September 2019

EDP will be the recommended supplier of recharging equipment to JAC Motors customers, as well as for providing charging stations for the automaker's dealer chain in the country

EDP, a company that operates throughout the value chain of the Brazilian electricity sector, through EDP Smart, a division that brings together the Company energy solutions portfolio, establishes a partnership with JAC Motors, becoming the recommended supplier of charging stations for customers purchasing 100% electric vehicles from the Chinese automaker, launched today during an event held in São Paulo.

In order to encourage the energy transition in Brazil and generate business opportunities, companies will join efforts to increase synergy and competitiveness of the new segment. In addition to offering special-price electric mobility solutions to JAC Motors customers, EDP Smart will also install 30 charging stations at its automotive dealerships nationwide.

“We believe that the partnership with JAC Motors will further stimulate the search for electric cars in the country. With the offer of adequate infrastructure, in line with a wide range of 100% electric vehicles, the expansion of electric mobility in Brazil is moving towards becoming a reality, ” highlights Nuno Pinto, head of B2P Business and Electric Mobility at EDP Smart.

“We are very proud to find such a significant partner in the energy segment that will surely back our customer with reliable and safe products,” ensures Sergio Habib, president of SHC Group and JAC Motors Brasil.

At the first slow-charge electric stations have already been installed at the JAC Motors showroom, located in Jardim Europa, São Paulo. With a power of 7.4 kW, they recharge electric vehicles in a period from 6 to 7 hours and are suitable for homes and businesses. To charge, simply plug in the electric car and start operations on the charger panel.

Among the main benefits of this solution are the financial economy, which contributes to recovering the investment made. The refueling cost for a 42 kW battery-powered electric car is approximately R$ 6.00 per 100 kilometers, considering an electricity fare of R$ 0.70. As a reference, a combustion vehicle can spend up to five times more to travel the same route.

Innovations related to electric mobility are increasingly ceasing to be a trend and becoming a reality in the country. Economy, sustainability, greater efficiency and tax incentives are some of the points that make the population resort to this alternative. Continuing the strategy of promoting this area, EDP has been launching public, residential and business solutions that contribute to the decarbonization of society and the creation of more sustainable ecosystems.

Global commitment to mobility

EDP has a global commitment to electrify 100% of its fleet by 2030, as well as to develop new business offerings and solutions that promote the energy transition. In Brazil, the Company has already made significant investments in the sector. Last year, it opened an electric vehicle supply corridor between Rio and São Paulo. Installed along 430 kilometers of the Presidente Dutra Highway, the chain of charging stations made it possible to make a complete electric vehicle trip between the two most populated capitals in Brazil. Recently, EDP began the installation of the largest electric vehicle charging chaing in Espírito Santo, with the implementation of seven charging points distributed throughout the state.

In Portugal, EDP public network with 100 charging stations has already supplied more than 720MWh of energy, divided by more than 59,000 charges since 2017. With these chargings, it was possible to avoid the emission of about 540 tons of CO2. In Spain, the Company already has more than 80 stations installed.
