EDP and Findes opens electric vehicle recharging station at Praia do Camburi

Friday 31, May 2019

Recharging stations will also be deployed in the cities of Cachoeiro do Itapemirim, Venda Nova do Imigrante, Guarapari, Linhares, São Mateus and Nova Venécia

EDP, a company operating across all segments of the Brazilian electricity industry, and Findes, the Federation of Industries of the State of Espírito Santo, inaugurated the first rapid recharging station for electric vehicles at Praia de Camburi, Vitória this Sunday (02). Approximately R$ 350 thousand was invested deploying seven electric vehicle recharging stations, the largest recharging station network in the State.

Each unit can simultaneously fast charge two vehicles. Batteries can be charged up to 80% in just 30 minutes. The initiative will also benefit hybrid vehicle owners who choose to run their vehicles in electric mode.

Recharging stations will also be deployed in the cities of Cachoeiro do Itapemirim, Venda Nova do Imigrante, Guarapari, Linhares, São Mateus and Nova Venécia.

Like those at Praia de Camburi in Vitória, anyone can use the recharging stations without any time or date restrictions. Simply connect an electric or hybrid vehicle, unlock the station with the correct charging card and start charging using the charger panel. From this Sunday (02), vehicle owners can register to use the stations at www.edpsmart.com.br, fill out a form and receive their recharging card at home.

At the National Electrical Energy Station (Aneel) is considering a framework for free negotiation of vehicle recharging prices. The network built by EDP and Findes is free to use for the time being. Costs and procedures are still being analyzed by EDP Smart, a new branch of the EDP Group that manages the Company’s entire service portfolio for residential and corporate customers. This new company provides integrated solutions in Free Market Trading, Retailer Trading, Energy Efficiency, Solar Energy, Electrical Mobility and End Consumer Services.

Charging electric vehicles costs around 80% less than filling the tank of a combustion engine vehicle, based on a petrol engine vehicle with average fuel economy of 10 kilometers per liter.

EDP, a leading innovator in the energy industry, was the first company in Brazil to create smart network, work automation and distributed solar power management projects using blockchain technology and developed the first Smart Grids laboratory in Latin America.

“Electrical mobility is completely in line with EDP’s approach to innovation and sustainability. This initiative will open the State up to a growing industry”, said João Brito Martins, Director at EDP Espírito Santo.

According to Léo de Castro, President of Findes, electric mobility is here to stay and Espírito Santo needs a recharging infrastructure if it is to flourish. “Findes and EDP have joined forces to provide the State with this technology and support growth of electric mobility. Several car-makers are committed to ending production of combustion-engine vehicles and moving to electric models, not just here but globally. This project will provide new technology and bring local industry into the future”, he said.
