EDP creates a new brand and launches services for residential customers

EDP SMART will consolidate the Group’s entire energy solution portfolio. The business starts out with an EBITDA of R$ 180 million

EDP, a company operating across all areas of the country’s electricity industry, recently launched EDP SMART, a new division that will bring together the Company’s entire portfolio of services for corporate and residential customers on the free energy market. Including 2018’s results, the business will start off with an EBITDA of R$ 180 million. The new brand will provide integrated solutions in the Free Market Sales, Retail Sales, Energy Efficiency, Solar Energy, Electric Mobility and End Consumer Services areas, with an investment of R$ 10 million to expand its product range.



This brand repositioning will recreate the tried and tested strategy from EDP Portugal, creating a modern and innovative brand that will set the bar in the service segment and brings the Company closer to its customers on a daily basis, while also creating new business opportunities. 



“We are always aware of changes in the energy market and try to anticipate our customers’ requirements with flexible, tailor-made solutions. EDP SMART will allow us to expand our activities and explore new markets”, said Carlos Andrade, VP of Strategy and New Business at EDP.



“By creating a department for End Customer Services, we will be able to provide a package of efficient, convenient products for residential customers, such as home assistance, electrical vehicle charging and solar power generation”, said Nuno Pinto, executive manager of B2C Products and Services.



Here are a few of the services offered by EDP SMART:



Easy EDP



Easy EDP is a monthly, 24-hour home assistance product that provides locksmith, electrical, plumbing and household appliance repair services. The monthly subscription costs R$ 19.90, with a promotional price of R$ 17.90 for anyone signing up between 15/05 and 31/08. The service is available for customers located in the São Paulo and Espírito Santo concession areas and will be arriving soon across the country.



EDP Energy Management



This is a digital platform corporate customers across Brazil can use to manage their energy bills using artificial intelligence. Their bills are analyzed with the help of a third-generation robot, which can identify savings opportunities using energy efficiency solutions.



Residential Solar Power Generation



As part of efforts to promote solutions that encourage a decentralized energy market, EDP SMART will also install solar power generation systems for residential customers. EDP will soon be offering customers the option to purchase or rent solar panels to help them cut their energy bills.



EDP began selling solar power panels in Portugal back in 2014. Today, the company is the market leader, having sold over 13,000 photovoltaic systems across the country.



In Brazil, the Company made its first move into solar energy in 2017 and has already negotiated 15 solar distribution and auto-production projects, producing approximately 25 MWp.



Electrical Mobility



EDP believes vehicle recharging services for companies and consumers is the future for urban mobility and an opportunity for EDP in Brazil.



Last year, EDP partnered with the BMW Group Brazil to deploy one of Latin America’s biggest electric vehicle recharging corridors. Around R$ 1 million was invested installing six fast charging devices at gas stations along a 430 km stretch of the Presidente Dutra highway, which runs from São Paulo to Rio de Janeiro.



At the Company also partnered with the Espírito Santo Federation of Industry (Findes) to deploy the largest electric vehicle recharging network in Espírito Santo. The R$ 350 thousand project deployed seven recharge stations.



EDP Insurance



EDP provides customers from its concession areas in São Paulo and Espírito Santo with the EDP Home Protection, EDP Wellbeing Insurance and EDP Account Protection Insurance with coverage for fire, lighting strikes, 24-hour emergency assistance, loss of income due to involuntary unemployment and accidental death, among others. Customers can also take part in monthly draws that award cash prizes.



Nother Residential Services



EDP SMART also offers installation, repairs and maintenance services for air conditioners, showerheads, lighting and electrical systems.
