The competition runs until May 1st on EDP’s Open Data platform. The winner will be awarded 5 thousand Euros

EDP, a company that operates across the value chain of the country’s electricity industry, has challenged students, academics, startups and the technology community to assess operational data from its own power plants, tackle challenges facing the energy industry and find solutions for wind farm operational issues. EDP’s Open Data Hackathon will award the winner with 5 thousand Euros.

Athose who are interested have until May 1st to develop a wind turbines failure prediction model, aiming to forecast maintenance requirements and reduce downtime at renewable energy plants. After the registration period, the best participants will be given the opportunity to present their projects to EDP.

At the predictive maintenance challenge can be accessed via the EDP Open Data platform (https://opendata.edp.com), an initiative the company recently launched to make operational data available from its various businesses, alongside technical data from wind and solar farms managed by EDP Renováveis. Anyone can sign up and consult the information that will be used during the challenge, which includes data on clean energy generation, turbines and panel availability, weather conditions, etc.

At the data can be used in academic papers, for startup development projects in the energy industry and for a variety of other purposes. EDP has taken this approach to strengthen its relationship with the scientific community and simultaneously identify people and companies with the potential to create new tools and solutions based on artificial intelligence.

“We believe that sharing knowledge is one of the ways we can continue innovating. We want to use EDP Open Data to build closer ties with the scientific community and promote collaboration in order to generate knowledge and disruptive solutions for our business areas”, said Livia Brando, executive manager of Innovation at EDP Brazil.

At the EDP Open Data platform will be permanently available and will soon launch new challenges with data from the Group’s other business units.
