EDP celebrates Consumption Awareness Day with campaigns across their agencies

Thursday 11, October 2018

On October 15, customers served by the Distributor’s agencies in Sao Paulo and Espírito Santo will receive eco-friendly bags (ecobags)

On next Monday (15), customers served by electrical energy distributor EDP in Sao Paulo and Espírito Santo will receive a reusable eco-friendly bag – Eccobag. Eight cities will take part in the campaign

At the campaign is part of the Company’s efforts to support Brazil Consumption Awareness Day . On this day, around two thousand Eccobags will be distributed. Customers registered to receive their electricity bills via e-mail or adopt this service on the spot will receive the Eccobag and an LED light bulb, which is more efficient, economic and sustainable than conventional bulbs.

At the participating cities are Cariacica, Aracruz, Iuna, Venda Nova do Imigrante and Atilio Vivacqua in Espirito Santo and Mogi das Cruzes, Suzano, Taubaté and Guarulhos, in São Paulo.

Consumption Awareness Day was created by the Ministry of the Environment in 2009 with the aim of raising public awareness about social, economic and environmental problems arising from excessive production and consumption. EDP is committed to raising customer awareness in its service areas and has organized a campaign to promote the initiative.

“Last year, we made a commitment to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and strengthened our social and environmental engagement”, said Pedro Sirgado, executive manager for the environment and sustainability at EDP. “Our initiative is part of this commitment, supporting global efforts to ensure responsible production and consumption”, he added.

Qualify and reuse

EDP continuously invests in campaigns and technologies that aim to protect inputs and promote usage efficiency. As a resiult, the Company used around 6.1% less water last year, compared with 2016.

Among the key measures it has taken, the Company has adopted solutions to increase water management efficiency at the administrative buildings it has inaugurated in recent years. These include the new head office at the Pecém Thermoelectric Power Plant, the Distribution Service Center (CSD) in Poá and the on-site customer service agency in Jacareí (São Paulo), all now equipped with systems to reuse and capture rainwater.

At the Group’s EDP Institute supports projects to Restore Water Sources in Espírito Santo, working with small-scale farmers to protect regional water sources. For instance, the projects developed by the Terra Institute and by the Amigos do Vale do Castelo Society (SAVAC) helped to preserve 40 water sources and trained around 400 people through 2017.

Furthermore, more than 600 thousand current customers receive their monthly electricity bills by e-mail. This campaign helps save over 430 trees a year.

It also makes use of the customer relationship channels to encourage e-mail billing. When the customer subscribes to virtual billing, they not only help protect the environment by decreasing dependency on paper, they also receive their bill as early as possible, making the billing process much more convenient.

How to subscribe to the EDP email billing system

Registration for email billing is simple and can be carried out at any time by accessing EDP Online (www.edponline.com.br), using the company app which is available for all smartphone and tablet platforms, calling customer service channels or by directly requesting email billing at the Distributor’s local branches.

At EDP Online, the customer can also choose to receive Scheduled Maintenance Notices and other Company communications by e-mail.
