Mogi das Cruzes, July 4, 2018 - The first School of Electricians exclusively for women in the Brazilian electric sector received more than 550 entries from women interested in learning a new craft. Of the total, 16 students were selected for the training course which starts this Wednesday (04). The initiative is a partnership between EDP Brasil, a company that operates in all segments in the country, with the National Service of Industrial Learning (SENAI).

“We were surprised by the enthusiasm and the great demand. and it’s a great satisfaction to see that we are on the right path, with the promotion of actions that for equality of opportunity between genders” says Fernanda Pires, director of Human Resources at EDP. After theoretical tests in the first stage of the process, about 50 selected passed practical tests and interviews.

At the program is free and focuses on the qualification and empowerment of electricians to act in the power distributors. The course will include lectures and practical classes on the principles and laws governing the functioning of electrical systems. The intention is that the participants learn about the procedures and techniques necessary for the planning, execution, evaluation and inspection of networks, as well as preventive and corrective maintenance, within the technical norms and safety.

In 2017, EDP endorsed the Women’s Empowerment Principles, created by the UN, and has joined the global effort towards the Sustainable Development, which place Gender Equality as one of the major global targets to be achieved by 2020.

At the classes will be held in the Company’s concession area, in Mogi Crosses, São Paulo. There are approximately 550 hours of teaching, about four months duration. Students will receive scholarships during the course period, they will receive a certificate issued by the SENAI and will remain in the EDP talent pool, being able to participate future of selective processes for effective vacancies.
